The Falconiforme is formed by three families: Accipitridae, Pandionidae and Falconidae, which species are popular known as Hawks, Eagles and Falcons, or also bird of prey.
Latin America is the richest are of birds of prey in th world.
One of the ways of distinguishing these birds is by the way of their flight. The Accipitridae have rounded wings and commonly hover on the air, and the Falconidae have narrower wings and fly ahead, penetrating more easily in the forest.
The birds of prey feed of insects as grasshoppers, bugs, wasps. They also eat reptiles, amphibious and rodents and also one that is specialized in crabs (Rosthramus sociabilis). Some bigger species feed of medium mammals as monkeys and sloths, they are Spizetus tyrannus and Harpia hapyja.
They normally have their nests in places that are of difficult access, as the high trees, where they make small wood nests.
Examining literature (SICK, 1999; SCHAUENSEE, 1970) we have rising 59 species in Brazil, as it follows bellow in the same order of SCHAUENSEE, and some of them are threatened of extinction as Harpia harpija e Leocopternis polionota.Accipitridae
