ECOTOURISM

AN ECOLOGY’S ALLIED

Some time ago, looking at an important newspaper in São Paulo, I could notice a fact that made me thinking about the use of kayak as a mean of locomotion and nature’s contemplation. The article, in the sports part, was about an adventurous priest that was navigating with his kayak by the State’s countryside rivers and taught ecology to the local communities – a “pioneer” of our times.
The hang was not purely sportive and not just a mere leisure. That boat, apparently “fragile” was helping him to disclose a multifaceted Brazil, full of contrasts, surprises, and rare beauty. In spite of all of our fluvial availability and the potentiality of our coast, any initiative like this is always seen with amazement and its enterprisings are taxed as crazy and daring.
In a Brazil cut by “infinite” rivers, with a privileged coast, a diversified landscape and a relatively amen climate, the way that we have been using the natural resources is not one of the best ways. In another words, the immediatism’s formula and mass attendance have been leaving irreversible sequels.
In countries that are less favorable by its geography or climate, there are a lot of people enjoying the Ecotourism’s pleasures, which uses ways as trekking, mountain bike, dive and canoeing, among any others, to reach its objectives. In an ordered way and with low environmental impact, ecotourists go on discovering the world and getting conscious about the environment’s preservation.
Just imagine a road sculpted by nature... now look around, feel the aromas, go closely... you are navigating on a river! When people navigate without making noise and without polluting, it is easy to be tuned with the environment, to be living it in all of its plenitude. This involvement starts in the right moment when an oar is grasped and force is transformed in movement, flowing to the nature’s rhythm.
We have the best “yard” in the world, but we have not noticed it yet; we have the ideal form for knowing it, but we did not learn to enjoy it. Among the Olympic velocity’s canoeing, the turbulence of white waters and pure leisure, there is an option to the ones that are fewer athletes but are not less avid for emotion: the ecological Canoeing.
The Ecological Canoeing did not looks just for leisure or the sportive practice, but the ideal mean of locomotion, integration and contemplation of the nature. Navigating by rivers, lakes or coast waters without leaving rasto, without compacting treads and without causing erosion, show that the activity is of low impact. This way, we can adventure ourselves, looking for the unknown with tranquil conscience. Joining physical activity to natural environment, nothing better than understanding it, for helping to preserving it to the future generations. Here comes the ecological conscious.
