BIRDS

Some birding places and its checklists

Bahia

Itacaré

Here follows the birds checklist observed by Antonio Silveira (with Gianine Luiza) fro Itacaré County region, South Coast from Bahia State, in June, 2006, where in some day we have observed 100 species.

The observations have been made at the quoted County, secially at São José beach and São José Farm, far away around 2 kilometers from Itacaré.

In this region there is, mainly, the exploitation from cocoa monoculture, bu in some places there still are original atlantic wood fragments, where some interest birds species can be observed as the Bare-necked Fruitcrow (Procnias nudicollis;Araponga), Least Pigmy-Owl (Glaucidium minutissimum; Caburezinho) and Opalrumoped Tanager (Tangara velia; Saíra-diamante).

The region is protected by the Environmental Protection Area (APA_ Serra Grande Itacaré, that also takes the coast region, where there is a great development of ecotourism.

We have noticed that the area is a really ecotouristic region, as there is a great number of natural attractives, as desert beaches, wood etc. And surely, the observation tourism must be introduced there, speacilly birdwatching, because there are interesting birds for observers there.
