Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho with its 37,644 hectares was created in October 08th of 1982 (State Decree 19,499) and if points out in the State of São Paulo, in the Brazilian Southeast, enclosing the cities of São Miguel Arcanjo, Capão Bonito and Sete Barras. It possess great altitudinal variety, going of low lands of the Vale do Ribeira (City of Sete Barras) to mountains in plateaus of Guapiara and Serra de Paranapiacaba, about 950 meters of altitude.
The area of the park suffered to little anthropic interference, due the lack of access and its geomorphologic situation and its vegetation is formed by Humid the Latifoliated Forest of Hillside (Atlantic Bush) and by the importance integrate the Zone Core of the Biosphere of Atlantic Wood, known for UNESCO as small farm of the Natural World-wide Patrimony.
The Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho and Parks Intervales, Jacupiranga and the Station of the Xintué, together form the biggest continuous area of Atlantic Bush of Brazil, thus possessing a very rich biodiversity. It is one of the biggest areas of primary forests of the vegetal covering of the state.
Among the components of its rich fauna there are some species threatened of extinguishing as the Mono-carvoeiro (Brachyteles aracnoides; Muriki) the biggest primate of Americas, calculating itself in 800 individuals, of the 1,200 existing ones. There still are the Bugio (Alouatta clamitans; Howler monkey) and Macaco-Prego (to Cebus apella to it nigritus; Capuchin). There is also registered the presence of the Jaguar (Panthera onca) and the Suçuarana (Concolor felis; cougar) and the rare Bush dog (Speothos venaticus) among others.
In relation to the birdfauna, Jacutinga (Aburria jacutinga;Black-fronted Curassow), the Macuco (Tinamus solitarius; Solitary Tinamou), Tucano-de-bico-verde (Ramphastos dicolorus; Red-breasted Toucan), the Araponga (Procnias nudicolis; Bare-necked Fruitcrow); Sabiá-cica (Malachitacea triclaria; Blue-bellied Parrot) and the Corocochó (Carpornis cucullatus; Hooded berryeater). To make our comments we were housed in the headquarters of the Park that is in the side of Highway SP 139, which cuts the park, enters São Miguel Arcanjo and Sete Barras. The headquarters are in the km 25 of the cited highway (S 24º 03’ 20 " WO 47º 59’ 35").
Beyond the inn, the headquarters count on a Center of Visitors for environmental education and a Museum of Zoology of animals of the place. There are some monitored tracks for visitors, where environmental education is practiced.
The place has everything to be explored with the observing ecotourism for its scenic beauty, as well as the observing tourism of birds, being able to attract thousands of foreign birdwatchers among others that would not only bring verge to the unit of conservation as would propitiate aggregate economic advantages as generation of jobs and movement of the commerce. Moreover, the presence of birdwatchers of some parts of the world would attract to the unit of conservation the international attention of researchers and entities, as well as of banks of environmental promotions, still propitiating a political pressure factor for competent authorities taking decisions for the implantation of politics and objective measures. The present stack does not have any scientific pretension, but only to raise the biggest possible number of the existing birds species birds in the place, to propitiate to the " birdwatcher " who visits Parque Estadual Carlos Botelho, a reference of the most found birds there.
The comments had been made by Antonio Silveira R. Dos Santos (birdwatcher) on March 02nd and 03rd of 2001 and 05th to 08 th, April, 2006, in daylights (normally between 6:00 and 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00) with binoculars 8x30, recorder Sony TCM-5000, with directional microphone (Sennheiser) assisted still for filming (Sony, Digital MX1-) and recorder mini disc (Sony MZ- R50).
The comments had been made in the region of the Headquarters in tracks and the internal road.
