ECOLOGICAL TRIPS

National Park of Serra Bocaina- SP

Between days 25th and 28th of January of 2001, we were (Antonio Silveira and Gianine Luiza) in the National Park of Serra Bocaina-SP, in the region of Vale dos Veados that is the 1.300 m. of altitude, with the objective of observing the local birdfauna, having been identified 103 species of birds (stack in the page of Birds/Birds by Locality). One is about a valley that is in a particular property of 700 alqueires.
          The National Park of the Saw of the Bocaina with its 100.000 hectares was created in 8th of June of 1972 and if it points out in lands of the states of Rio de Janeiro and of São Paulo, in the Brazilian Southeast, enclosing Areias, Cunha, São José do Barreiro, and Ubatuba in São Paulo and the County of Parati in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
It possess great variety of altitude, going of the coast lowered one to mountains, having as one of its higher points Pico do Tira Chapéu, in the state of São Paulo, with 2,200m of altitude. Its vegetation is formed by the known Atlantic Bush and from 1,500 m/alt. the " famous fields of altitude " for its specific flora meet.
          Serra da Bocaina is a complex of mounts and mountains and if it finds enters the bulk of the Serra do Mar and of the Mantiqueira, having the river Mambucaba as one of the main rivers, in whose passage until the sea it forms gorgeous waterfalls.
To make our comments we were housed in the Hotel Vale dos Veados.
Although not having electric energy in the inn where we were, it has relative comfort, frequented for tourist of some parts of the world, also some birdwatchers. We have arrived in the inn after 3 hours, leaving of São José do Barreiro. What it is only obtained with vehicles of traction 4X4, before the precariousness of the road.
